Design Options

Styling Layers

Design options in Turbomaps are applied at the layer level. This means every object in a particular layer will share the same design.

  • To use different styling options for individual objects, use multiple layers.
  • You can select multiple layers at once or create a group to apply styling in bulk.
  • The design of your map is not affected whether you are using Turbomaps in light or dark mode.

Different layer types can be styled differently. See layer types for an overview.

Styling Options

Text

The layer name can be added as text to point, line, or polygon layers.

Point layers display the layer name next to all points, unless names are set for individual points within the layer.

The font color, size, and weight can be adjusted. Font sizes remain constant at different zoom levels, but text may be auto positioned or hidden to prevent conflicts with other elements on your map.

Colors

The color can be adjusted for text, stroke, and fill of the various layer types. You can click the color swatch to bring up a color picker, or use a color hex code to input your own color.

Colors can also be semi-transparent, but may result in undesirable blending effects. You may want to use the opacity option for the entire layer instead.

Opacity

All layers can have the overall opacity adjusted, or be hidden entirely. The opacity is applied to all the elements of the layer—any fill, text, or stroke applied will become semi transparent.

This is particularly useful for the basemap. You can reduce the opacity of your basemap layer to make your map elements stand out on top of the basemap labels and colors below.

Basemap

There are several options for the underlying basemap style:

  • Light: A good option for maps that need to emphasize your content, while providing subtle geographic context.
  • Dark: Similar to light, but with an inverted light on dark color scheme.
  • Streets: A general purpose map that emphasizes road and transit networks.
  • Outdoors: A general purpose map with styling to aid hiking, cycling, and other adventures in wilderness locations.
  • Satellite: A basemap with satellite imagery and street information. Hiding labels on this map will hide all streets and other features, not just text.
